History
Basic Mode: Standard arithmetic operations (+, −, ×, ÷), parentheses, percentages, square root, power, and reciprocal.
Scientific Mode: Adds trigonometric functions (sin, cos, tan, and inverses), hyperbolic functions, logarithms (ln, log, logab), factorial, permutations, combinations, absolute value, floor, ceil, round, constants (π, e).
Angle Mode: Toggle between DEG (degrees), RAD (radians), and GRAD (gradians) for trigonometric functions.
Big Numbers: Use big("12345678901234567890") for arbitrary-precision arithmetic. Complex: Use a + bi or complex(a, b) syntax.
Order of operations and floating-point limits
Standard precedence applies: parentheses first, then powers, then multiplication and division (left to right), then addition and subtraction — 2 + 3 × 4² is 50, not 100. Beyond precedence, most calculators store numbers in binary floating point, where 0.1 + 0.2 lands on 0.30000000000000004; a display rounding usually hides it, but long chains of arithmetic let it leak into the visible digits.
When cent-exact results matter (money, factorials of big integers), plain floating point is the wrong tool — that is exactly what this page’s big() arbitrary-precision mode is for, and 2^53 + 1 silently equals 2^53 in plain JavaScript numbers.
