MKV is a common video file defined by
Matroska Media (a new multimedia package format). MKV is
different from both DivX, XviD or other videos encoding
formats and MP3, Ogg or other audios which only provides
these audios and videos with “cover portfolio” and “package
format”. The biggest feature of MKV is that it could hold
many types of encoded video, audio and subtitles flow, and
even very closed streaming media like QuickTime and
RealMedia. Actually, AVl, VOB, MPEG, RM also belong to a
container format as MKV does, but their shortages of old
structure or being not open enough leads to MKV's (the new
multi-media packing format) birth.
WMA is Windows Media Audio. WMA is a
new audio format developed by Microsoft well known as MP3.
With a higher rate in files compression and better sound
quality than the latter, even far beyond those of RA.
