DV is short for Digital Video which means
video information recorded in digital data. The digital
video format is produced jointly by several famous
appliances giants like SONY, PANASONIC, JVC, SHARP, TOSHIBA,
CANON, etc. Even if you copy a digital video file for 10000
times, the quality will maintain the same as the original
one, so more and more analog videos are stored in DV
format(*.dv or *.avi). Besides, the cost of DV is much lower
than 35mm film especially during the period of editing. DV
is not just applied to film production. There’re many
different digital video coding methods and files container
formats as well as image coding that supports different
sizes, quality, resolution, color accuracy and coding
function. ASF is Advanced
Streaming Format. It is an extensible file format developed
primarily for storing synchronized digital video, audio,
subtitle streams, or transmitting data on the internet. ASF
is also a multimedia container of Windows Media Video or
Windows Media Audio.
To convert DV to asf file, Windows has
bundled some DV decoders. You do not need to install other
dv decoders. But for some DV formats, you have to install
extra dv codecs for conversion.
