Descriptive Statistics: Mean, median, mode, standard deviation (population & sample), variance, quartiles (Q1, Q2, Q3), IQR, range, min, max, sum, count, skewness, kurtosis, geometric mean, harmonic mean.
Frequency Distribution: Organize data into bins with count, relative frequency, and cumulative frequency. Customize the number of bins.
Linear Regression: Least-squares regression line (y = ax + b), correlation coefficient (r), coefficient of determination (R²), and residuals.
What is descriptive statistics?
Descriptive statistics summarizes a whole dataset in a few numbers: mean (add and divide), median (middle value when sorted) and mode (most frequent) locate the center; standard deviation and IQR measure the spread. The mean is dragged by outliers — one huge value moves it a lot while the median barely moves — so house prices and incomes are usually reported as medians.
Population vs sample matters for spread: the sample variance divides by n−1 (Bessel’s correction) because the sample mean was itself estimated from the same data; this page reports both, and picking the wrong one systematically understates variability.
