Text Analyzer — Character, Word & Line Statistics with Frequency Tables
Text Analyzer
Analyze your text with detailed statistics: character and word counts, frequency distributions, line statistics, UTF-8 byte count, and Shannon entropy. Auto-analyzes as you type.
All processing happens locally in your browser — your data is never uploaded to any server.
Input
Analysis:
Text Analyzer — Get detailed statistics about your text in real time. Metrics: Character count (with and without spaces), word count, line count, byte count (UTF-8), longest/shortest line, average line length, Shannon entropy in bits for characters and words. Frequency Tables: Top 30 most frequent characters (with percentage) and top 30 most frequent words. Auto-Analysis: Statistics update automatically as you type (with a 400ms debounce). Click Run Analysis for an immediate refresh, or Copy Stats to copy all statistics as text.
All processing runs locally in your browser — nothing is uploaded.
What do text statistics tell you?
Counts describe a text's shape: characters (with and without spaces), words, lines and UTF-8 bytes each answer a different question — byte count is what matters for file size and API limits, while word count is what editors and translators bill by. Frequency tables expose repetition, and Shannon entropy summarizes variety in one number: highly repetitive text has low entropy (bits per character), varied text has high entropy.
Word counting is not language-neutral: Chinese and Japanese text has no spaces between words, so a "word count" for CJK text depends entirely on how the counter tokenizes it — compare only counts produced by the same tool.
