Word Metadata

View, edit or wipe the properties of a Word (.docx) file — Drop in a DOCX to read its title, subject, author, company, keywords and more. Change any field and save a fresh copy, or clear every field and strip the embedded thumbnail with one click. Everything runs locally — no upload, no server, no cloud.

Where document properties live

Title, author, company and friends are stored in one small XML part inside the .docx package (docProps/core.xml) — the same part that Windows Explorer's right-click → Properties and Office's Info screen read. Editing them never touches the document body. They are unrelated to DOCVARIABLE fields, which are variables a document's macros set and read at runtime.

Properties are file-level facts, not document text — and they travel with the file. Before sharing externally, wipe author, company and the embedded thumbnail (one click here). To strip or edit the same fields in bulk, re-run this page on each file; to fix a damaged document use Word Repair.
