Word-Based Code Decoder DECODING

Decode three types of word-based codes to numbers: NATO Phonetic Alphabet (Alpha=1..Zulu=26), Roman Numerals (I=1..MMM=3000+), and English Number Words (“one hundred twenty-three” → 123). Select a tab below to get started. All processing is local — no data is uploaded.

Word-based codes — what and why

These three systems all spell numbers out in words. The NATO phonetic alphabet (Alpha, Bravo, Charlie…) gives every letter a distinct spoken code word so letters survive bad radio channels; here Alpha=1 … Zulu=26 turns it into a letter-number cipher. Roman numerals (I, IV, XL, M) write values with additive and subtractive letter pairs; English number words spell the value out in full.

Roman numerals add left-to-right, except that a smaller letter before a larger one subtracts — IV is 5−1=4, IX is 10−1=9 — and a letter may repeat at most three times in a row (III is valid, IIII is not).
