JSON → YAML: Converts JSON data to clean, human-readable YAML format. Ideal for configuration files and data serialization.
YAML → JSON: Parses YAML documents back into standard JSON format. Supports anchors, aliases, and multi-document YAML.
Tip: YAML is a superset of JSON — any valid JSON is also valid YAML. Use the Swap button to quickly convert back and forth.
JSON → YAML, and the superset myth
Every valid JSON document is valid YAML (YAML 1.2), which is why conversion in this direction is always safe. The reverse is not: YAML has anchors, aliases, unquoted scalars and multi-document streams of its own, so YAML → JSON resolves anchors and aliases into plain structures before emitting JSON. Quoting differs too — YAML strings containing special characters need quotes that JSON never would.
📋 Tips
JSON → YAML: JSON objects become YAML mappings, arrays become YAML sequences.
YAML → JSON: YAML indentation determines nesting level. Use consistent spacing (2 or 4 spaces).
Multi-document YAML (separated by ---) is fully supported.
